Colorado Coyotes #2
Ford & Elle
This author always presents the most lovable aspects of human nature and in this book she did no less than her usual.
Ford Barrett came to lead the Colorado Coyotes after the explosion that rocked the city and the hockey community. Eight months after the explosion, the team is starting the season using the university’s ice rink, while they wait on news of the construction of their new facilities.
Ford is under a lot of pressure, needing to rally this group of athletes around into a cohesive unit and win. What he doesn’t need is the badgering of a newspaper journalist who constantly brings down the opinion of hockey and furiously opposes the construction of the new ice rink.
It’s a lovely coincidence that Elle Lawrence moved next door to Ford. After he accidentally dropped the couch on her big toe, he learns who she is and leaves, furious that he’s so attracted to her and so angry at all the dribble that the wrote about his team. It’s not until he sees her crying out in her patio that he softens his stance and opens his heart to the attraction he feels.
The story is made even more lovely because of Ford’s acceptance and trust with Elle. He understands her reasons not to like hockey and he accepts her stance. He even defends her to the team owner. When they’re together, they’re Elle and Ford, not their public personas.
I loved how Ford gets involved in all aspects of Elle’s life, including supporting her when her brother, who has CTE, comes to live with her. She feels the pressure and worries of her brother’s condition and Ford is front and center, helping with Luke.
There are many steamy moments with this couple but what I loved most about Elle and Ford was the acceptance. They stood on different sides of an issue that is closely related to their feelings and still were a couple and still loved hard. Very human and romantic!
