Book review: My Dark Romeo, by Parker S. Huntington & L.J. Shen

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Epic and incredible story!  These two talented authors let loose their crazy and their funny and gifted us with this extraordinary story about two wonderful characters who delighted us, made us laugh, made us sigh, and made us a little sad too.  The many emotions they got out of me are incredible in this riveting read.

This is the unwilling arranged marriage between an irrepressible, irreverent, and irresistible young woman, Dallas, with this uptight and extremely controlled man, Romeo.  He thought he could dominate her, bend her to his will, but it was clear, early on, that he could not control this wild creature.  In turns, fascinated, awed, disgusted, discombobulated, and frustrated, I had a great time witnessing Romeo’s reactions to Dallas’ escapades!

There were sad parts for me, too, as Dallas is seen without a lot of recourses to retaliate against Romeo, although she was gifted and creative in upstaging his controlling ways.  I felt sad as I witnessed her trapped in a gilded cage, with only his money as her power.  On the other hand, I rejoiced as I saw a husband who was more and more enchanted (and perturbed!) with this creature who was just not to be contained and bound.

I loved that although she was an unwilling victim to Romeo’s revenge plot against his father’s company, in the end, he was fascinated by his wife and one by one, started to give in on many of his prohibited regulations.  I perceived early in the book that he had a somehow broken past and that made me feel sorry for him, too.  I was just hoping hard that they would be able to bring happiness to each other, and soon!

There is a rich group of characters that make this story even more delightful, mainly Romeo’s two accomplices and friends, Oliver and Zach; and Dallas slightly psychotic sister Frankie.  It’s a testament to Dallas’ charm how she conquered the cook’s and the gardener’s affections and together, they formed a clique to have fun in the house.

It was a long, convoluted, incredibly entertaining story.  I had all kinds of feelings while I read it, and ended up enchanted with the characters and this couple.  I can only hope that Oliver and Zach get their comeuppances too in the form of lively damsels who will outwit and confound them!

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey

The best part about this book is that it’s a small town romance, and I love this trope.  Everyone knows everyone else’s business, gossip tra...
