Book review: WHEN LOVE FOUND US, by Claudia Burgoa

Timberbridge Brothers # 3

Atlas & Blythe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Instead of calling this book a page turner, I should call it a nail biter, because it had me on the edge of the seat, anxious as I read about the menace of an abusive husband in search of the wife who escaped his clutches.

The book starts with a chilling escape scene, then goes into the moment where Blythe meets Atlas and connects with his ice-cold blue eyes, and I was done for.  I was incredibly curious about Atlas since the other Timberbridge brothers hate him so much, and it all comes clear in this book.  He’s not just a tattoo artist, he’s so much more.  A brooding artist who hides a tender heart, who wants to protect and save people who are in situations like he was as a child, powerless and without protection.

When he meets Blythe, the same protection instinct comes to life, except this time there’s also chemistry and an intense sense of wanting.  It’s a yummy story and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Atlas deep down inside.  Blythe initially irritated with her stubbornness that came out of self-preservation, but once she accepted that this small town was special, she accepted the help.

I liked that there’s a potential danger to the town, known by the sheriff, unknown to the residents, and this issue is used as a common theme in the series, and it’s this issue that is bringing the brothers together, in agreement or disagreement.  And of course, the power of women, as in, the partners of the Timberbridge brothers who are the ones forcing the reunion, as they themselves are forming such a strong group of supporting women.

There’s a strong thrum of suspense through the book, like a waiting in suspense feeling, and a great pace that made the book such a page turner.  I enjoyed this book a lot, especially seeing Atlas and Blythe finally getting to stop running, stay, and just be.  Finally finding a home with each other.  Great story!

Book review: FINDING HAYES, by Laura Pavlov

Magnolia Falls #5

Hayes & Savannah

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As I read the other books in the series, I always saw Hayes as a grump.  In this story, I got to see his huge heart and huge capacity for loving.  I got to see that his best friend of all times, Savannah, came back after an absence of ten years, in which she blocked him out of her life.  And yet, when she needed help, he didn’t hesitate, he offered himself to help her, no doubts.

I knew immediately that Sav’s absence and anger towards him had to be a misunderstanding, because the feelings between them, that easiness of being together, didn’t allow for any bad actions between them.  They marry so Sav could inherit and help her dad fight his cancer.  And of course, her forced stay in Magnolia Falls and in his house brought the clarification they needed and we needed to know.

In this story and all the stories of the series, there’s a common thread of brotherhood.  These five men have been loyal and supportive to each other, and their group chat is hilarious.  It’s one of the best things I like in the book.  And the other one is little Beefcake.  He’s a little boy, but his old soul gives lessons to the big men in his life, all the time.  He is love personified, the product of a father and four uncles who care and watch out for him.  To me, he is the best part of the series.

I’m sorry this series ends, but I’m already looking forward to the new series and Easton’s story.

Book review: FORGOTTEN DESIRES, by Corinne Michaels

Whitlock family #4

Brynlee & Carson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Second chance, billionaire, marriage of convenience, and single dad, how could I resist this one?  Carson Knight, the billionaire who employed Rowan and his farm for milk production is invited to Rowan’s wedding. And in that wedding, surprise, he meets again with the one that got away ten years ago.

Technically, he’s the one that got away because after a week of whirlwind romance and one last night of passionate sex, he disappeared on Brynlee. We learn during the story that Carson’s leaving broke both their hearts, but Carson had obligations that he couldn’t get rid of. Now, ten years later, after an ugly divorce, father to an adorable four years old precious little girl, he can finally fulfill his destiny, loving Brynn.

He uses the excuse that he needs her for his custody fight, and they get married in what is supposed to be a fake arrangement, but I knew was destined to be fake for only about two seconds. There are such strong feelings between them, such heartache, so much love saved up through the years!

Lots of family events, a Sugarloaf float parade, a farm full of discarded animals and rescued by Brynn, all elements to give a second chance at happiness to Carson and his little daughter. The ex-wife is a vicious alcoholic gold-digger, so she makes things difficult, Brynn is afraid to trust, Carson feels unworthy but determined to make her happy.

It’s incredibly romantic, with touches of angst and sweet moments of family love, and one event after the other. I loved that the story is dynamic, so it kept me riveted waiting for the next event, or sexy time, or family crisis. Great finale to the Whitlock family and a sneaky glimpse into what’s coming up next. Can’t wait!

Book review; COLD HEARTED CASANOVA, by L.J. Shen

Cruel Castaways #3

Riggs & Duffy

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought I’d read great books by this author, but I got another surprise in this brilliant book!  LJ Shen surpassed my expectations when she wrote this story about a billionaire who lives and dresses like a poor person because he doesn’t want people after him for his money.  And guess who he falls in love with? A self-proclaimed gold digger!

It’s incredible the different levels of awesomeness in this story.  Initially Duffy despises Riggs because she caught him having sex with her boss, who is a horrible woman, a bully.  He despises her because she blackmailed him into a fake marriage she needs for a green card.  The turns this story takes as they discover truths about the other, how they develop feelings and evolve into better persons is a joy to read.

Riggs is a nomad, no house, all travel, all his belongings fit into a backpack.  The only expensive stuff he has is his photography equipment.  Duffy came from extreme poverty, studied in Cambridge with a full ride and met B.J., an entitled prat who kept her dangling for years, expecting a proposal for marriage, then left for a six month vacation in Nepal.  Now she needs a green card, another job, and marry rich.  You’d expect her to be shallow but instead she’s a very caring woman, generous with her attentions towards her older neighbor, and deeply loves her family.  Riggs is the one that feels shallow but as the story evolves, he shows hidden depths.

I loved reading as they get closer, start caring, start doing good deeds for the other.  The banter between these two is hysterically funny, although sometimes it’s a bit hurtful. And there’s a plot twist towards the end that is a real surprise and rounds up this story in a fantastic manner.

Hugely entertaining, with funny moments, angsty moments, it felt like a wild ride between two passionate individuals who had completely opposite lifestyles and yet meshed together so beautifully.  Page turner and wonderfully enthralling!

IRRESISTIBLY DANGEROUS, by J. Saman

Irresistibly Yours #5

Lenox & Georgia

From the start of the series, I have been intrigued by Lenox Moore.  He’s silent and intense, always present for his best friends, always available to help with his incredible hacking skills.  He’s a man of few words but I was impressed that although he lived in Maine, he was still there in Boston when his friends needed him. He’s saved many situations for his friends, finding out surprising information on their enemies and winning the day.  I was intrigued on how his love story would develop and I was not disappointed at all!  Turned out his love interest is Georgia Monroe, cousin to Sax and Grey, like a baby sister to them.

I was surprised that Lenox and Georgia had past history, a two-year relation that ended badly.  When she comes, after a six year period, and asks him to marry her to save her inheritance, of course he won’t say no, and this starts a very riveting and adventurous story.  No wonder the title of the book is Irresistibly Dangerous, their attraction was just that for them!

It’s made very clear in this book how much he loves his friends, his bandmates when they used to be the Central Square rock band. His house has five bedrooms, and his dining table has five chairs, one for each of them! I also got to see how much the death of Suzie, his twin and Sax’s girlfriend, destroyed him.  I felt for him and all that he went through.

The story is very adventurous, Georgia is a handful, stubborn and independent. She needs Lenox’s help, but resents he thinks she needs protection. She did knock down two men during the story, so she was feisty and dangerous!  Even though they said they would keep on hating each other, of course it didn’t stick! The story turns steamy and feelings soon follow. I loved reading about Lenox’s hacking skills, loved their bantering and their love-hate initial interactions. Georgia has a big heart and wants to do the right thing; likewise he has a good heart hidden beneath that broody exterior. I was gobsmacked when I read about his personal circumstances, brokenhearted about his huge depression after he lost his twin, impressed by his work on himself to be worthy and deserving of Georgia’s love. And I chucked every time he called her Georgie and got an elbow to his ribs!

Riveting and entertaining, so sorry to finish this series but grateful to the author for the outstanding stories!
