Book review: SACKED, by Aleatha Romig

The Coopers #3

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story picks up right where the last book ended, and from the first page it pulls you right back into Vee’s world. There’s tension, secrets, and a lot of pressure on her shoulders. Bre’s arrest, the pregnancy reveal, and all the legal mess around it set the tone for a book full of suspicion and shifting loyalties. Vee has to stand firm as the owner of the Coopers, and I loved seeing her take control in that board meeting and choose her Aunt Rachel as temporary CEO. You can feel how much she’s learning every day, even when her uncle and cousin push back.

There’s also the strange story Prescott tells Fin about the Marsh‑Hubbard family, and Fin trying to protect Vee while he figures out what’s true. The whole book has this steady thrum of mystery, with everyone acting in ways that make you question their motives. Daphne contesting the will, Grant and Uncle Darin acting shady, Bre calling nonstop, and the old secrets about Vee’s mother coming to light… it all builds into a really gripping read.

The football side of the story is amazing. The author clearly knows the game, and the details about QB rotations, injuries, and planning for the long season make you feel like you’re inside the organization. Fin’s role grows, and you can feel both his excitement and his worries. Vee is proud of him, but she also fears every time he steps on the field. Their relationship is beautiful here—closer, stronger, and full of love. Her apartment truly feels like home for both of them.

There are so many moving parts: the team’s hopes for the Super Bowl, the possibility of hosting a future one, the mystery around Reid’s death, Daphne’s strange behavior, and the bombshell plot twist near the end. Every chapter adds another layer, and it’s impossible to stop reading. And of course, it ends in another cliffhanger that leaves your heart in your throat.

My thoughts: this book is more suspenseful, more emotional, and completely riveting. There are secrets everywhere, danger creeping in from different directions, and Vee trying her best to lead the Coopers while building a life with Fin. It’s fast‑paced, full of twists, and the next installment is sure to be explosive.

Book review: CURSED QUEEN, by Julie Saman

Once Upon Ever After #2

Bellamy & Sebastian

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This sequel delivers everything I wanted after that brutal cliffhanger: more mystery, more royal chaos, and more of Sebastian being an intense, broody beast with a silvery‑blue stare that could freeze oceans — except when he’s with Bellamy and the kids, where he turns into a total softy. In the bedroom, though? The man absolutely lives up to his reputation, and Bellamy is delighted.

Bellamy’s irreverent humor and American practicality (“curses aren’t real, bad things happen, move on”) continue to be the perfect antidote to centuries of royal superstition. She brings warmth and fun into a palace drowning in secrets, curses, and generational trauma. The discovery that she’s pregnant with twins adds joy… until tragedy hits and she spirals into a grief that feels painfully real.

The mystery of Desta’s kidnapping explodes wide open with the dowager queen’s shocking confession — betrayal, scandal, and a level of coldness that made my jaw drop. Rowan steps up beautifully, proving he’s far more than the playboy prince we met before.

And then comes Charlotte, the “perfect” nanny who turns out to be a walking red flag. The snooping, the manipulation, the cheek kiss — all leading to a kidnapping that ties the entire mystery together in a chilling way. The rescue is tense and satisfying, and Sebastian’s groveling afterward is exactly the catharsis I needed.

There’s humor (Arthur the ferret!), heartbreak, jealousy, danger, and yes… an almost comical amount of anal play. These two have no fear.

Overall, it’s a dramatic, emotional, addictive continuation of a series that thrives on love, chaos, and the stubborn belief that curses don’t stand a chance against Bellamy’s big heart and sassy ways.

Book review: THE LAST CALL HOME, by Blaudia Burgoa

Timberbridge Boys #5

Malerick & Delilah & Cassian

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The single most important emotion I felt throughout this book is “want”.  Cassian arrives at Birchwood Springs, buys a bar, and prepares to settle for some time on his assignation.  The CSQ, who are working on taking down the Hollow Syndicate, want him there to help on the operation.  He didn’t know that Malerick was in town, also on assignment with the FBI, posing as the town sheriff, and with the same purpose.  When Cass arrives at Delilah’s coffee shop, finds Mal there, there’s a complete scene all full of emotions, want, lust, longing, guilt, resentment, and a very heavy sexual tension, very little words.  That scene was intense!

What came out of that scene and other meet ups, is that Mal and Cass used to work together in the FBI, had a relation that blew up disastrously and left them both full of many regrets and broken feelings.  There’s a sense of wanting to belong, wanting love and family, and wanting to be home. As their work progresses, so does the courtship between Delilah, Malerick, and Cassian, all abetted and supported by Rosalinda, Delilah’s mother. She’s anxious to find a spouse for her daughter, wants grandkids.  She’s a force to be reckoned in this town; even Cassian, experienced operator that he is, is scared of her.

There’s suspense and there’s sex, in equal amounts.  There’s a lot of tension, as Delilah makes her demands and waits for her men to deliver: the truth or nothing.  It’s very interesting that Atlas and Keir’s stories happen during the course of this book, so this one takes several months to happen.  There seems to be a lot of waiting, and a lot of playing for our throuple.  They wanted each other, and they were doing the work, lead by Delilah.

I loved to see them coming home to each other, was biting my nails in the final part of the book where things were coming to a conclusion in unexpected ways.  There’s surprises in the book, very intriguing.  I actually wanted more of the three as they settle into domestic bliss, so sorry to see them all go.

Book review: WHEN LOVE FOUND US, by Claudia Burgoa

Timberbridge Brothers # 3

Atlas & Blythe

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Instead of calling this book a page turner, I should call it a nail biter, because it had me on the edge of the seat, anxious as I read about the menace of an abusive husband in search of the wife who escaped his clutches.

The book starts with a chilling escape scene, then goes into the moment where Blythe meets Atlas and connects with his ice-cold blue eyes, and I was done for.  I was incredibly curious about Atlas since the other Timberbridge brothers hate him so much, and it all comes clear in this book.  He’s not just a tattoo artist, he’s so much more.  A brooding artist who hides a tender heart, who wants to protect and save people who are in situations like he was as a child, powerless and without protection.

When he meets Blythe, the same protection instinct comes to life, except this time there’s also chemistry and an intense sense of wanting.  It’s a yummy story and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Atlas deep down inside.  Blythe initially irritated with her stubbornness that came out of self-preservation, but once she accepted that this small town was special, she accepted the help.

I liked that there’s a potential danger to the town, known by the sheriff, unknown to the residents, and this issue is used as a common theme in the series, and it’s this issue that is bringing the brothers together, in agreement or disagreement.  And of course, the power of women, as in, the partners of the Timberbridge brothers who are the ones forcing the reunion, as they themselves are forming such a strong group of supporting women.

There’s a strong thrum of suspense through the book, like a waiting in suspense feeling, and a great pace that made the book such a page turner.  I enjoyed this book a lot, especially seeing Atlas and Blythe finally getting to stop running, stay, and just be.  Finally finding a home with each other.  Great story!

Book review: LOVE ME GENTLY, by Stacey Lynn

Deer Creek #1

Cole & Trina

⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️

Reading this book was exhausting!  Due to the author’s excellent writing, I followed Trina during her break up with Cole, her hard efforts to find modeling opportunities in New York, her fall from grace, and the utter ghastliness of her married life.

Once she’s rescued from that life, it’s an upward climb towards mental health, and again, the author takes us on that bumpy ride too.  Stacey Lynn gave us such a clear portrayal of what it feels like to loose all your self-respect and love, to feel like trash and not worth saving.  And that incredible selfless love that Cole shows is the best medicine for a broken heart.

The book is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time, and it needs to be read without me describing all the details, just go in there and have a good cry fest.  It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and a wonderful redemption story.
