Book review: BOSSING MY HOLIDAY, by J. Saman

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were lovely—Tristan especially stood out with his transformation from grumpy, stern boss to emotionally open partner. Waverly’s strength and vulnerability made her easy to root for, and Braxton added warmth and tension to the trio’s dynamic.

The Paris setting, the humor (one scene had me laughing out loud), and the emotional pacing were all beautifully done. The romance is intense and graphic, but also tender and respectful as the story progresses.

That said, I had mixed feelings about the relationship dynamic. Tristan and Braxton both clearly love Waverly, and she loves them back—but the men aren’t in love with each other. Their connection felt more like a long-standing habit of sharing women that evolved into something deeper. While I eventually saw mutual respect and care, it didn’t quite feel like a true throuple to me. More of a ménage, where the emotional weight is centered on Waverly’s individual relationships with each man.

Still, it’s a compelling, emotionally rich romance with a lot to love—and a dynamic that invites reflection and conversation.

Another charming love story about this wonderful Fritz family!  By this time they feel like an extended family!  Keegan is the quintessential Fritz princess, lovely, generous, conscious of her standing as a Fritz, careful of her reputation, knowing the press follows her around.  In spite of her wealth she is not at all entitled, but rather responsible and work oriented.  She has a secret that she’s keeping from most of her family, and through the book she’s struggling on how to come clean: she’s a romance author apart from being a ob/gyn resident.

I loved Loomis in this book! He’s specially vulnerable because he has a son who was delivered on his mother’s doorstep. He has no information at all about his birth or his mother, so he’s feeling insecure, afraid his little boy will be snatched away.  He’s incredibly grateful for the help and support that Keegan, Tinsley, and Vander give him.

The story is so sweet as we see Loomis taking care of Fenric, cooking for Keegan, being protective of both, grateful for the help, and being a good friend all around.  He’s keeping his attraction in check because he doesn’t feel worthy of a Fritz princess but Keegan disabuses him of the notion.  And once they start, does it turn hot 🔥!

The story has steam, lots of loving, a precious little boy, friends who help, a villain who is following them and publishing compromising photos, the suspense about little Fenric.  All of it kept me riveted to the action, to see when Loomis would succumb to Keegan’s wiles, and what about Fenric comes up.  Great story, great entertainment, great characters!

As I started the book, I thought this would be a standard fake relationship story but it went much farther than that.  It was also a story of growth and overcoming personal issues.  Both Rafe and Lulu had personal problems in their lives and being together as fake boyfriend and girlfriend gave them the friendship and support they needed to break out from the bonds that kept them stuck.

I loved both Lulu and Rafe! She was an emotional, free spirit who needed to fly on her own rules.  For this reason she didn’t fit into her famous family, where decorum was always expected.  The only one who loved and accepted her completely was her grandfather.  Rafe had plans to open his own financial consulting firm but insecurity kept him from pursuing his desires. I saw Rafe as man content in his life, who loved his town and his family, very friendly and happy.  He was like a ray of sunshine for Lulu in a life where she was seen as the black sheep of the family.

Initially Lulu was snarky and nasty, but as she grew close to Rafe, she changed to sassy and sexy.  I loved the slow burn as they grew close, develop the friendly ties, then the sexy ties, and how the mutual support helped them soar.  It was much more than fake relationship, it was discovery, freedom, happiness, a family and friends circle that buoyed them up.  Very uplifting and heartwarming, I loved this story and these two exceptional characters.

Book review: RAFFERTY, by Sawyer Bennett

What makes this romance stand apart from the previous ones is the sheer sweetness between Tempe and Rafferty.  Rafferty is a ladies man, but a super decent guy.  He had a one-night-stand with an Titans marketing employee, who turned out to be Brienne Norcross’ cousin. She won’t accept that they aren’t a real couple, won’t accept that he doesn’t want him, acts like a real psycho.  Even when he’s fake-dating Tempe, she won’t give up. And Rafferty is such a nice guy that he doesn’t want to hurt her feelings!

I loved how sweet he is with Tempe, although he’s very sexy and they have very many yummy sexy times. He’s sweet with her little brother, and very attentive to her mother.  What started out fake between Tempe and Rafferty ends up completely real.  They are a beautiful couple, and he knows she’s perfect for him.

As with all Sawyer Bennett’s romances, it’s like coming back to a family I loved, wonderful characters, a romance that is perfectly written, with the perfect balance of sweet, steamy, angsty, and funny.  I loved that Brienne appears brightly in all of them, as a very concerned and supportive boss who treasures the Titans family.

Book review: TEXT APPEAL, by Kylie Scott

Delicious and oh so playful, this was a highly entertaining read! I loved the subtle humor and how humanly imperfect these two characters were!  I also dig the fact that the female character is a romance author and there are frequent references to all the book tropes we love, like second chance, fake relationship, etc.  It’s cute to read an author writing about an author, and get all the difficulties of writing a story that compels readers. 

The start of the book is unique and intriguing.  Riley just moved to this small town, got a new cellphone number and starts receiving messages from someone called Ava directed to Connor, asking for a second chance.  Ava doesn’t believe that Riley doesn’t know Connor and spread the rumor in town that Connor has a new girlfriend.  So by the time Riley makes her first appearance to a coffee shop, she’s the talk of the town and appears in the shop’s dueling jars as “Riley the new girlfriend” versus “Ava the home hero”.

From here and forward, we’re treated to a fun story where Connor finally visits his “new girlfriend” and proposes a fake relationship in order to get the town off his back.  Everyone is rooting for him to get back with Ava and it’s not happening, but he needs help. And the rest is history, as of course fake turns into true.

The humor of the story is great, loved the banter between Connor and Riley and Riley’s witty comebacks. It was super entertaining and fun to read!
