Book review: THE SOUND OF FOREVER, by Claudia Burgoa

The first part of this book is blabby, lots of thoughts, like setting the stage for the emotional whammy the author is going to serve us during the book.  The book is like a continuation of The Fault in Forever, since this is Keane Stone’s story.  He had been in an car accident with his fiancĂ©e Ophelia, both almost died, she recovered, but Keane was in a coma for five years.  Ophelia found another love and he now has the long lonely journey into rehabilitating his body from the coma.  I loved this book because it presents us the character arc of Keane as he transitions from a selfish drug addict into a decent guy who lives for someone new.

First Keane went into rehab for ninety days to deal with his former addiction, to make sure he won’t fall back as he struggles with his many emotional and physical issues.  Then he moves to Luna Harbor, a small town, where he can have peace and space.  And there he meets his destiny!

Julianna was estranged from her older sister since their mother died.  Elena was a difficult person, and she hoarded all their mother’s possessions and shut out Julianna and her brother Oscar.  When she receives a phone call informing her that her sister is dying and she’s been appointed guardian of her little girl, she’s floored.  She may be estranged from her sister but she was not ready to lose her.  She takes her niece Rayne and moves to Luna Harbor so they can both mourn the loss of Elena and give them a chance to adjust together.  Both are struggling as they try to belong together.

One thing that felt like serendipity is that Keane and Ophelia were having a baby, but the baby didn’t survive the accident. She would have been six years old, and that’s exactly Rayne’s age when they meet.  So it felt like kismet, a chance for Keane to make amends and repair his heart as he learns to care and protect another little girl.  I think Rayne was instrumental in Keane’s emotional growth.

The story is romantic, slow burn, positive and redemptive.  At some moments, Keane had doubts he would come out of the dark cloud he was living in, unsure he would get his music back.  And in the end, he not only got the music, he got a family too!

I love this author’s stories because they center around an angsty story.  There is sex, but as is necessary to the story.  She hasn’t fallen into the habit of other authors of using lots of sex scenes to make her books more commercial and for this she’s earned my admiration and respect.  Julianna and Keaton click because she brings peace and acceptance into his world, and he gives her the strength and protection she strongly needs at this point in her life.

Lovely story, very emotional and heartwarming!

book review: MY DARK PRINCE, by Parker S. Huntington & L.J. Shen

Dark Prince Road #3

Oliver Von Bismark & Briar Rose Auer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s not a book, it’s a saga! Ninety-nine chapters of delicious story, full of angst with a taste of funny, two wonderful characters, a perfect balance of the ridiculously excessive wealth and the lack of love and recognition.  I love when these two authors take their creativity and let it run wild because we are in for a lot of fun, emotion, and steam.

Briar was ridiculously neglected by her parents and always hungry for love.  Hence, when Oliver gave her attention, she latched onto him, gave him endless hugs, and earned the nickname “Cuddlebug”. Oliver had a normal childhood, until a horrible accident made him feel worthless and undeserving, so he hid his persona behind a lackadaisy guy.  And in the deepness of their hearts, they would never be complete without the other.

Abandonment, tragedy, guilt, and vengeance are behind most of the negative.  Love, generosity, willingness to sacrifice, a search for love and sense of belonging are behind the positive.  And we have a long and winding story that goes from the sublimely beautiful prose, to the ridiculousness of Romeo Costa buying DeLauren cars in every color so that Dallas always matched.  Very deep and heartfelt messages were read and cried about, like:

“There has never been a moment in your entire life that you weren’t loved.”

I loved every page and every word, loved this couple who loved deep and hard and endlessly.  Loved revisiting Dallas and Romeo, Zach and Fae, and all their antics and quirks.

Book review: STERLING FIGHT, by L.B. Dunbar

Sterling Falls #5

Judd & Genie

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book! So romantic, so sweet.  Judd and Genie knew each other since they were kids in grammar school, they crushed on each other but it’s not until they are in their 40’s that they really had their chance.  I loved their back history, how careful and attentive Judd is with Genie as he woos her, cherishes her, and brings her to love.

Genie had reneged on marriage after the example of her toxic mother who is on her fourth marriage, but Judd is teaching her what it really means to love.  She realizes all the couple goals she had in her mind and that Judd fulfills so easily, so wonderfully.

I loved that a quirky girl who had issues with love finds a guy who has loved her for many years.  Judd was full of anger inside because of an abusive father, but in loving Genie he finds forgiveness and fills his soul with love.  Their story is full of little quirks, remembrances from their childhood, Judd’s siblings who are also finding love and forgiveness. From having a toxic mother, Genie finds a family who circle her with support, friendship and acceptance.  It was a very uplifting and heartwarming story.

Book review: THE HERO.+ VEGAS = NO REGRETS, by Louise Bay

New York City Billionaires #3

Worth & Sophia

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Instant lust that fast transforms into love, Worth, considered the “dad” in their group due to his serious demeanor, surprises everyone with his insta-love story.  I was so surprised to see him obsessed so fast with Sophia!  She’s Jules’ best friend and invited to their friends’ group weekly reunion.  Worth swoons but keeps it inside, respecting that she’s intended for Fisher, but as soon as he learns neither is interested in the other, he swoops her up and gets her married in a Vegas drunken surprise wedding.

Worth seems stodgy most of the story but looses that stodginess when they’re in the bedroom.  What he is, is a kind and generous person who is always striving to take care of all those around him.  When his father died, he was twelve, and his mother checked out.  He took care of the house and his little sisters, striving to keep his family intact. This instinct pervades his dealings with everyone, until Sophia changes his perspective and convinces him to do things that make him happy.

I liked the emotional part of this story, the friends group who are so tight and caring, and

Sophia, even is she waffles a little bit.  There are secrets in her family and when it all comes out, her life is upended and she doesn’t handle it well.

I didn’t love the first part of the story, the insta-love wasn’t very convincing, but it improved a lot after, and I loved the tenderness and loving side of Worth that is revealed in his book.  There’s a lot of longing, lots of angst, evolving for both.  I loved the scene where the guys went to a craft class! They stuck to Worth like glue when he was down, like good friends do. Not the best of the series but entertaining nevertheless.

Book review: THE KISS LOTTERY, by Ilsa Madden-Mills

Beautiful! This story is quintessential Ilsa Madden-Mills, a perfect combination of romance, steam, sweetness, and funny.  The tropes of second chance and small town are like kryptonite for me, I can’t resist them!

Everly was best friends with Becket since they were kids, she loved him but he kept some distance.  So, she turned to Carson, their other best friend, and they started dating.  Until the sorry incident that caused the basketball team to lose the championship game. Everly was blamed, and she spent the whole senior year shunned by both Becket and Carson, and bullied by the rest of the school.  She left Rose, TN, and hasn’t been back in ten years.

She received a Valentine letter inviting her back to Rose, and she came back, successful with her podcast Travels with Everly, intent to cover the town’s Kiss Lottery program.  Here she met with her gang, Tabby, Fritz and Troy, and they went back to their usual haunts. Beckett is a mystery, neither glad nor angry.  He did include her in his latest mystery as the villain, so she has a bone to pick with him.  He has been keeping secrets from her, which explained the distance, and they are revealed during the story.

The story evolves just how I like it, with remembrances, yearning for what could have been, regrets over hurts dealt, melancholy over the loss of their mothers.  Becket works on forgiveness from Ever, and their story evolves sweetly, as if meant to be.  He gives some beautiful speeches to Ever, super romantic and full of love and regrets and longing.  We also have the mean girl who is after Becket and hates Everly, fun times!

The story was beautiful and funny and sweet, I loved reading this and enjoying such a wonderful romance.
