Book review: UNDENIABLY UNEXPECTED, by J. Saman

Boston’s Irresistible Billionaires #6

Keegan & Loomis

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another charming love story about this wonderful Fritz family!  By this time they feel like an extended family!  Keegan is the quintessential Fritz princess, lovely, generous, conscious of her standing as a Fritz, careful of her reputation, knowing the press follows her around.  In spite of her wealth she is not at all entitled, but rather responsible and work oriented.  She has a secret that she’s keeping from most of her family, and through the book she’s struggling on how to come clean: she’s a romance author apart from being a ob/gyn resident.

I loved Loomis in this book! He’s specially vulnerable because he has a son who was delivered on his mother’s doorstep. He has no information at all about his birth or his mother, so he’s feeling insecure, afraid his little boy will be snatched away.  He’s incredibly grateful for the help and support that Keegan, Tinsley, and Vander give him.

The story is so sweet as we see Loomis taking care of Fenric, cooking for Keegan, being protective of both, grateful for the help, and being a good friend all around.  He’s keeping his attraction in check because he doesn’t feel worthy of a Fritz princess but Keegan disabuses him of the notion.  And once they start, does it turn hot 🔥!

The story has steam, lots of loving, a precious little boy, friends who help, a villain who is following them and publishing compromising photos, the suspense about little Fenric.  All of it kept me riveted to the action, to see when Loomis would succumb to Keegan’s wiles, and what about Fenric comes up.  Great story, great entertainment, great characters!

Book review: DEATH, by Michelle Heard

Mafia Empire #3

Santiago & Ciara

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Michelle Heard is one of the few authors who can make me cry with her portrayal of vulnerable women and the men who protect them.  In this case, Ciara Devlin was kidnapped and subjected to such strong conditioning, that she was broken.  Her captor kept her completely subjugated, he fed her, bathed her, wiped her bum, beat her for disobedience, sometimes locking her into a trunk.  Eventually, Ciara came to see the trunk as a heaven, where she didn’t have to see her captor and escape within her mind to happier past memories.

Once rescued by Santiago, she kept to the trunk to escape, so severe was her trauma.  Santiago, one of the Mafia Empire lords, breaks up cartels and sex trafficking rings and brings the victims to his compound to help them deal with the trauma.  He can be extremely violent, but he has a strong humane side.  He has the resources to help Ciara and can’t help falling in love with this delicate creature, so badly broken.

This story was sweet and romantic, seeing Santiago so gentle and tender with Ciara, a very hard contrast to his Mafia persona, when he goes fully dark.  There’s a twinkle of danger in his eyes that Ciara detected fast, but his face is adoring to her, always.

I loved how Santiago treated Ciara, loved how hard Ciara fought to overcome her trauma, loved the reunion between sisters, and loved seeing harsh and forbidding Nikolai carrying his baby boy.

Once again, Michelle Heard proves that she’s the queen of Mafia love stories!

Book review: ANTI HERO, by C.W. Farnsworth

Kensingtons: The Next Generation #2

Kit & Collins

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the first book I read by this author and it certainly won’t be the last.  I loved this author’s writing, the characters, the plot.  It was hugely entertaining!

Kit Kensington is heir to a legend of a family.  They’re not only incredibly wealthy, they have an empire that they manage with dignity and respect for their employees. Instead of an entitled, snotty  family, they are family-oriented, the parents present and loving in their kids’ life. They are aware of what all their name represents, and even though the kids are a little wild and get involved in lots of pranks, they are good hearted within.

Kit has had a crush on his sister’s college roommate, Collins Tate, but she has always treated him with disdain.  When she arrived in New York looking for a job, he offers her one as his assistant, she takes the job, and the plot runs from here.

I loved Kit, he appears like a smirking cocky guy but he has depths and integrity. Collins saw Kit, not his last name, as she falls in love with him. I loved the characters and their banter, the subtle humor in their conversations, the emotional interactions between family members, the love between family and friends. The pace is a bit slow but full of information and movement, so it’s never boring.  And now that I’m finished with this book, I’m going hunting for another of this author’s books!

Book review: LAST CHORUS, by L.M. Halloran

A Perfect Song duet - part 2

Like the author promised, this was an angsty ride where she wrenched my heart, and the hearts of Eva and Wilder. In the previous book, Eva and Wilder had a calamitous ending where she asked never to talk again, Wilder accepted, full of guilt, and they have been living for six years on the fringes of each other’s lives, keeping their distance at awards and music events. Still, her parents are very worried because Eva is a shadow of the vibrant girl she used to be, and they fear she’s in the clutches of a very controlling man, Clay Eaton.

They ask help from Wilder, he takes a peek at them during  a New Year’s Eve party, and decides she does need help. And the rest is a story of love, giving, rescue, awakening a glorious woman to her wondrousness, and winning again that unfathomable soul mates love that has always lived within but had nearly extinguished with trauma, guilt, and addiction.

There’s a little bit of suspense when you’re dealing with an unscrupulous man who wants revenge, of the PR nightmare type, delight in watching a very mature Wilder, who had won the battle over his addictions and now manages his anxiety successfully; he’s in charge and ready to claim his woman. Eva is initially lost and floundering, but she starts to see, and live, and do her music again, as she recovers.

Their second-chance love story is beautiful, emotional, passionate, funny, and completely wonderful to read.

Book review: ALL JACKED UP, by Abbi Glines

Mississippi Smoke #6

Ransom & Noa

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don’t know what it is about Abbi Glines’ books but they are addictive and I can’t help grabbing them as soon as they appear in my Kindle and devour them.  I have been waiting a long time to read Ransom’s story, he always appeared so serious and strict, and he didn’t disappoint!

Ransom and Noa have been “texting pen pals” since high school. Noa tutored Ransom for his British Lit class and he liked how irreverent and funny she was, once Noa got over her shyness.  He’s been leaning on the texting between them for support on his worst dark moments and he appreciates her a lot.

Noa is now a best selling author of romance novels, uses the name of Juliette Romeo, so when they met, she recognized him but he didn’t recognize her.  From this moment on, the story is a hoot, as Ransom falls in lust with the author who is his best friend in text.  Also, she uses him as her hero in her stories, a big reason for her success.  Talk about a lot of connecting lines!

Once he learns that she is Noa and he is Draven, the hero in her books, a wonderful and entertaining back and forth ensues, as he battles his growing attachment to the real person, while worrying that the physical relation will affect their texting pen pals relation.  He’s so cute and sometimes so clueless!  Noa has been in love with him since high school, but likewise, she cherishes their friendship so she follows his cues.

The best part was when they did some “friendly cuddling”, I laughed so much at him trying to convince himself he could get back from that.  I loved how hard he fell, how hard he fought it, and how considerate he was of his friend.

He used to joke Bane, Than, and Oz about their psycho behavior when they fell in love, and now the joke’s on him, he joined the psycho club!

The story is lovable in parts, yummy sexy in others, completely riveting and entertaining all the time. It ends in a soft cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for the next part, as I want more of funny Noa and crazy Ransom!
