Book review: THE PROBLEM WITH PLAYERS, by Brittainy Cherry

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Avery and Nathan were sweethearts, very briefly, before he left for the baseball majors. The breakup was brutal and left Avery devastated, and she has since hated him with a vengeance. Ten years later, when he was hired to work with her, coaching the high school baseball team, she heaps insults and hatred on Nathan continuously.

Avery was also engaged, soon to marry in a few weeks. There was no reason for the hatred, and even less reason to continue her wedding plans with the red flags her fiancé was giving out. The wedding didn’t happen and we see a very concerned Nathan helping Avery out of the difficult situation.

At this point, I realize that Avery is the grump and Nathan the sunshine. He’s caring, never forgot Avery, and he’s sorry they ended so badly all those years ago. Avery is what I would call her own worst enemy. She’s prickly and emotionally unavailable, even to her own fiancée. She also holds a grudge way longer than she should!

What I liked about this book is the combination of humor and angst. The banter was absolutely brilliant! The characters were very perfectly imperfect, especially Avery, who has severe trust issues. I didn’t like her at times because she treated Nathan badly, but there were times where the goodness of her heart shone brilliantly.  I was impatient for her to get over her issues, or maybe get help, but she was stubborn, and she held on to her issues.

I liked that the story was slow burn but didn’t like that the author kept making conflicts and making the book longer.  It was entertaining until it started to drag and I was getting impatient to get this resolved.  I loved Nathan, he was everything a boyfriend should be, supportive, caring, understanding, and used humor to make a situation better.  He was brilliant!  Avery was sometimes cute and funny in her sassiness, she was a good sport, a great coach to her students.  There’s a scene where one of her star players had a bad situation and she knelt with him, hugging him hard, while he broke.  It was very emotional and showed what a big heart she has.

In summary, it was a great story, I loved the psychology involved, loved all the family loved portrayed in both Nathan’s and Avery’s family, liked how the author treated the themes of depression and anxiety, and completely loved Nathan.  He’s the perfect book boyfriend! I deducted one star because when I thought the plot was getting resolved, the author came up with more problems and extended the story too much, in my opinion.

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey

The best part about this book is that it’s a small town romance, and I love this trope.  Everyone knows everyone else’s business, gossip tra...
