Book review: THEN COMES FATE, by Nicole French

Silver Spoon #3

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At last we finish this trilogy, when we hope that Xavier and Francesca will finally sort all their problems and have their HEA!  At the end of the second book, Francesca is fed up of Xavier brushing her concern aside, sick of Imogene and Georgina’s schemes.  The last straw is when she goes to Xavier’s study and finds Imogene and Xavier kissing.  She asks Georgina for help and gets back to the USA in record time with Sofia.  She left a letter to Xavier telling him that (gasp!) she’s pregnant again but this time wants him to know from the get-go.

In the previous book we had seen that Xavier has several stressors related to his title and the estate.  There are questions about his legitimacy.  Upon his uncle Henry’s death, he moves to the Kendal estate, tries to take charge of the operation, but in assuming all his responsibilities, he shoved Francesca aside.  And she wasn’t having it!

So he rushes to the US to try to salvage the situation and finds a stubborn Francesca who won’t settle for less than being priority #1.  We have a Francesca who is dealing with the hormonal and emotional issues of a pregnancy, Xavier juggling all his affairs so he can please Francesca and solve his legitimacy issue and then we have a stalker sending menacing letters to Francesca.

It’s turbulent and full of insecurities for Francesca and a ton of stress for Xavier.  Xavier knows he screwed things with Francesca but in all honesty, he’s not sure what he did wrong.  He’s clueless!! So there’s a try and error approach, guided by scolds from Francesca as he tries to win back Francesca’s favor.  Francesca is a little dumb and stubborn insisting they’re done when in fact, we are all clear that they just need some fine adjusting and for Xavier to take his head out of his butt and read the room!

The story is entertaining, the love between Francesca and Xavier is strong, there’s the suspense of the stalker, the suspense of what Georgina will finally achieve with the House of Lords and the final resolution to his title.  The Zola clan is present in all their rowdiness and endearing support for their family.  Frederich is a very strange presence, very decent and courteous but you really don’t know where his loyalties lie.  All I wanted was to see all those conspiring against Francesca and Xavier to get their comeuppance and this author didn’t disappoint!  Great resolution of all the issues all around and a great second chance for Ces and Xavi after he almost screwed it all up!  Plot twist and surprise revelations awaiting the reader! Can’t miss this great finale!

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey

The best part about this book is that it’s a small town romance, and I love this trope.  Everyone knows everyone else’s business, gossip tra...
