Pittsburg Titans #7
Hendrix & Stevie
Another charming book in the Pittsburg Titans series! I love that it starts with Hendrix breaking it off with his horrible girlfriend Tracy. Nobody likes Tracy, she’s obnoxious with everyone, and yet, Hendrix had stubbornly continued to try and salvage this relation. Until this event, when she was ruining everyone’s fun and he had it. Exit Tracy! Good riddance!
The Titans are in Jerry’s Lounge doing a charity toy run, organized by Harlow, Stone’s girlfriend. The bar belongs to Harlow’s bestie Stevie. She’s an interesting girl in that she’s biker chic, handles herself perfectly in the midst of a roomful of bikers and plays a mean game of pool. All ingredients to blow off Hendrix’ mind. Ironically, the day he blows off Tracy, he meets her opposite, and this one is his destiny!
In this book, the author developed such charming characters, opposite in style, but perfectly in sync in their best attributes, compassion, kindness, friendship.
“We wouldn’t be well suited. You’re all preppy polos, and I’m a biker babe.”
Stevie comes with a wonderful father, president of his motorcycle club and owner of the tattoo parlor next door. He raised Stevie single handed, and raised a strong and independent woman with good self-esteem. Her mother abandoned them when she was three years old, so she has abandonment issues and is a bit leery of commitments.
I loved Stevie’s father! He’s grumpy but sweet and caring. His love for his daughter shows strong all throughout the book and she knows he always has her back.
The way Hendrix and Stevie come together is full of charm and wit, funny moments, and fatherly scowls. I found it sweet that Hendrix made it his goal to not only win Stevie over, but her father too. His besties also loved Stevie, after they saw her dealing with a drunken jerk at her bar:
“Dude,” Bain says, leaning in close and speaking in a low voice, “your girl is a b@d@ss, and I’m slightly terrified of her.” “I’m turned on,” Camden says with obvious awe.”
There are issues with Stevie’s mother, who had recently appeared in her life and they were having a tentative truce. Stevie is so open-minded that she was giving her mother a second chance at having a relation, against her father’s wishes and concern. I could tell from the get go that this woman is selfish and only cares about herself. Hard times ahead!
It’s such a charming and fun story, full of all the feels that Sawyer Bennett shares in her stories but also this world that you want to dive in and become a part of. I want them as friends and want to share in their awesomeness! It’s truly a delight to read these books and have more book friends join my imaginary world!
