Book review: Control Me, by Michelle Heard

Corrupted Royals #2

Nikolai & Abigail

Michelle Heard has done it again! What a book! She wrote another fantastic story that kept me riveted to my Kindle, full of emotional moments, wonderful characters and a plot that really surprised me.  This one was on par with the Sinner series, truly magnificent.

In the first book of this series, Abigail appeared flighty and frivolous.  In her insistence to take everything lightly, she cost Aurora a beating in their first fighting class.  I didn’t like her much because I thought she was an airhead, and her only redeeming factor was the love she felt for her bestie.  In this story, the author goes deeper into who is Abigail and we meet a wonderful young woman.  Yes, she’s a flirt and she’s upfront on her sensuality but I loved how she took Nikolai on a ride.  I especially loved how she called him Daddy and how he rose to attention every time she called him that, hilarious!

Nikolai, being the grump to Abigail’s sunshine, kept complaining but he was slowly being reeled in to Abigail’s charms.  I think that when he saw her painting, and how beautiful her paintings are, he started to change his opinion.  The paintings revealed there is an intense and creative person behind the brush and that woke up his curiosity about this young woman.  Soon, the gap in their ages stopped being important!

The book is initially fun with Nikolai’s grumblings and Abby’s teasing until it took a dramatic turn.  There’s a very emotional and traumatic scene that the author treated with the utmost care and kindness, and the aftermath was beautiful in its tragedy but also in the care of those around.  When an author makes you cry and admire the talent in creating this world that is full of crime and caring, you know you found a winner.

I loved how the story goes from fun and games, to drama and trauma, and on to cheesy scenes full of love and romance.  It truly was a rollercoaster of emotions and it felt cathartic to cry because it was so dang sad, then rejoice because the good guy rescued the princess from her evil family.  Another masterpiece!

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey

The best part about this book is that it’s a small town romance, and I love this trope.  Everyone knows everyone else’s business, gossip tra...
