Book review: BOMBSHELL, by Abbi Glines

Micah & Dolly

Just when I think Abbi Glines has done it all, she did it again!  In this story, she united an angel (Dolly) with the devil (playboy biker-dude Micah). Dolly is Micah’s little sister’s best friend, they haven’t seen each other in years.  And now when they meet again, Dolly remembers how much she crushed on him and why it wasn’t a good idea; Micah reacts to the tiny bombshell he finds Dolly is now, nicknames her Tink (as in Tinkerbell) and starts lusting for her real hard.

With the usual MC and Southern Mafia shenanigans, we’re now set on getting to know the Judgement MC club up close, the ladies of the club, and introduced to club politics.  At one moment, Micah mentioned going to church and I was gobsmacked until I realized it’s their meeting room 😂 

Dolly has some strong issues going on, she’s strong and dealing but sometimes they knock her down.  Her bestie Pepper is very protective, I enjoyed seeing how Micah loves and respects his little sister, also a little afraid of her.  She seems to be a firecracker!  I loved, loved, seeing Gage Presley, even though he’s used as the grim reaper to instill fear in the MC’s enemies. His smirk and good humor are legendary as well as his psychotic tendencies.  The other guys appear but Gage is my favorite.

The book is super entertaining, with all the MC business, the slight suspense coming from the guy who targeted Dolly to get back at Micah, Dolly’s issues, Micah trying to keep the distance, Pepper’s many threats to her brother, all the bikers who look scary but the ones protecting Dolly are marshmallows.  I loved the interactions, the decent people who appear dangerous initially and are anything but, loved Dolly’s generosity and kindness to everyone in need.  It really is impossible not to love her.  The slow burn as Micah holds strong and then folds is deliciously sweet and sexy.  Dolly is insecure and broke my heart many times, and I was rooting for her because she deserves everything good and kind.  It really was a great read!

My only concern with the book was that several plot lines were not closed up tightly and I hope it’s because they will be addressed in future books. Otherwise, it was another knock out of the park by Abbi Glines!

Book review: FIGHTING WORDS, by R.S. Grey

I read this book expecting a ton of laughs and instead, got a beautiful love story with a lot of yearning. Two writers, coming from very different lifestyles, get together, not by choice. The rookie editor is tasked to convince the recluse writer to write the third installment in a series that has readers enthralled and the publishing house impatient.

She was sunshine and optimism, passionate about writing; he was grumpy and had writers block.  I loved the picturesque village where he lived, the quiet life, the few friends. She comes from a family of doctors, felt like the ugly ducking of her family, but in this environment, she blossomed.

The story feels like it evolves from one squabble to another, until they hit their stride. I loved the evolution of Summer as she deals with her penchant of pleasing her family, even at the cost of her happiness. Their chemistry was hot and they were falling in love, almost against their will. It was a pleasure to read how they got in sync as they lived together until it felt natural.  

There were some parts where the prose was sublime, like a poem, and it described so very well their feelings:

He knows just what to do, lifting me up until I’m left empty and bereft and then slowly pressing back into me until it feels like our souls are touching.

There was some humor but the gist of the story was utter romance, lots of feelings, the yearning that I loved, the indecision of does he, does she, the frustration at what they perceived was a distance between life situations.  It was a lovely meandering through the story of a couple who fell in love against their wishes but completely under the control of their hearts.  Supreme!

Book review: MY ANTI-HERO, by TIJAN

I read My Anti-Hero a few days ago, and needed some time to process before writing my review.  I love all Tijan’s books, there’s not one that I haven’t liked.  But this one hit hard.  It grabbed me from the first chapter and kept me riveted all through the book, mesmerized by Billie and how she overcame the traumatic event from her childhood, impressed by Brett Broudou and how he turned his life around.  So sexy and exciting!

Both Billie and Brett have darkness in their lives. When she was twelve, Billie was the sole survivor in a serial killer attack and was able to identify him, so he’s in jail.  But the effects of that incident still affect her, making her a recluse.  Brett was one of the Broudou twins in Roussou, on the road for a life of crime and jail.  And yet there was a core of goodness inside, and with his talent for football, it turned his life around to fame and money.

It’s ironic that they were both so intensely attracted on first sight, with how opposite their lives are. Billie lives in reclusion, Brett lives in the limelight.  The story is fraught with suspense because there are crazies who want to stalk Billie and Brett is on high alert.  Billie has a foster family who loves her intensely and protects her. Brett got invested soon and joined the protection club. And Travis the cop kept watch from afar, intervenes where needed. 

The hotness of Billie and Brett is searing from the first moment they meet, I loved their story! I loved Brett and Billie’s insta-lust and Billie’s openness with her feelings. They loved so hard, so deep! I loved the glimpses of Channing Monroe, Heather, Mason and Samantha Kade, Stone and Dusty, and watching Billie fangeek. I was in a Tijan’s books heaven! 

The pace is great, the characters incredible and the suspense was killing me!

I don’t want to say much because this story needs to be enjoyed without spoilers.  Just be ready to be wowed and surrounded by chickens!

Book review: HUNTED BY A SHADOW, by Michelle Heard

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Michelle Heard has done it again! This story mixes grit with sweetness and comes out a winner! A Mafia lord loses his little brother to an organ trafficking ring and she gets the stolen kidney. The author made me cry twice in just the first chapter! And from then on, I was caught in this immensely emotional story as these two characters handle loss, she cries copiously, he turns into a monster, and then, impossible though it may seem, fall for each other.

I cried with Renzo as he mourns his little brother, this part was so tragic. I felt for Skylar as she was an innocent victim in this scheme. There are many tears spilt during this book, including mine!

Initially, I didn’t know how the author was going to turn this story around because Renzo was relentlessly ruthless and unforgiving. He kept going on his vengeance kick and poor Skylar was shaking and hyperventilating. There’s a lot of violence in this book, but also lots of love, like love for a little brother, love between father and daughter, love between Mafioso friends. The support of the other bosses for Renzo was outstanding.  There is also funny banter between the Mafia bosses, like Franco has triplets and the other bosses are scared to visit for fear to be stuck babysitting, or Dario who loves ballet and won’t miss a function. These lighthearted moments are perfect at balancing the other gruesome violent scenes. And of course, there’s lots of steam as Renzo and Skylar give in to their attraction.

The plot moves at a relentless pace, so riveting I couldn’t put it down, and when it ended I felt we had come full circle. You need to read this book to feel this rollercoaster of emotions and end up relieved and happy at the sweet ending! Magnificent!

Book review: SAY YOU’RE MINE - Siobhan Davis

Say I’m The One duet #1

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was formerly titled The One I Want, and it has been re-formatted into a duet.  It has added content, which in this author’s case, means more drama, more spice, more yummy story.  Therefore, I’m a happy reader!

In this first part, we enjoy Stevie and Garrick’s turbulent relation, where Garrick loves hard and fast, and Stevie is independent and deliberate.  Their give and take is sometimes sweet, other times frustrating.  As Stevie says, love is a lot of hard work.  I completely sympathized with Stevie because I was like that in college. Focused on a career and the future, no time for boyfriends! But Garrick was irresistible!

Garrick is everything you would want in a boyfriend, generous, loving, sexy, hot like a rockstar, and very protective.  He knows Stevie is the one for him and he’s going a hundred miles an hour to their future.  Stevie, on the other hand, is very independent, has trust issues, and is very slow in getting there, but when they’re together, she’s the best girlfriend.  Garrick was sometimes a little whiny but I loved that when she explained her position, he was understanding.  Compromise was the name of the game with these two!

The author brings us into this wonderful story of drama, spice, angst, college and family times.  I loved all the characters, even evil Ivy because it was fun to hate her.  It’s fraught with emotions, sometimes I felt anger, others sadness.  It’s impossible to read one of Siobhan Davis’ books and not feel like you’re in a roller coaster or emotions.  This story, with all it’s turmoil is hard on the heart.

It ends with a cliffhanger, a very tragic circumstance, where there’s guilt and recriminations.  By this time, I’m invested in the characters and suffering along with them, wishing for the best.  I loved the drama and the angst, now looking forward to the second part which promises to be even more dramatic.  It’s always a heart-wrenching read with this author, which is why I love reading her books!
