Race Fever #2
Nash & Bexley
Such a pleasure and comfort to read a book by Sawyer Bennett! I’m loving this racing series, learning a lot of stuff of what goes on behind the scenes, also what it takes mentally and physically to be a race car driver. I love that she’s presenting women in prominent positions within the racing hierarchy, fighting against some male misogynistic behaviors.
Nash and Bex were engaged until their career demands blew them apart. Nash, as a race driver, needed to attend social activities for sponsorship and connections. Bex, as an engineer in a prominently male word, needed to work twice as much to prove herself, so she worked long hours. The opposite preferences in how they spent their free time caused frequent fights until Bex saw Nash in a party involving lots of drinking and women. The explosion in their anger broke them apart. One month later, Nash had a serious car accident, suffered serious burns and mental distress, she went to visit him, he threw her out. Fast forward, three years later, Brienne hired them to work together, ignorant of all the currents between them. To say this made the story hella interesting is an understatement!
I loved all the interactions and thrills of the race world as the author depicted them. It shows a depth of knowledge of the sport, and it was very interesting. Their increasing closeness despite Bex’s work problems was incredibly riveting. It’s always a pleasure to read Sawyer Bennett’s books, her characters are wonderful, the stories perfectly paced, a great mix of tenderness and passion.
