Book review: RYDEVILLE ELITE EPILOGUE, by Siobhan Davis

Rydeville Elite # 8.5

Everyone

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow, the teenagers we first started reading about in the first book are now in their forties!  What a delight to see them all settled up in domestic bliss with their fabulous wives (and one husband), kids ranging from early twenties to not yet teens.  Happy times!

Initially, I thought this was a bridge to a new series because there are issues among the couples or some teens, but no, it’s just an update and ends in family celebration.  It was cool to see these marriages with everyday problems like stroppy kids, cute kits with great attitudes, talented kids, all the variety you get in real life. video games, pool parties, movie nights, and all kinds of family time.

It felt like a celebration of all those Rydeville kids who had such a stormy start and they’re now set into their lives, still together, still very much friends.  Cheesy and sexy, love it!

Book review: BY THE LETTER, by Julia Wolf

Mile High Billionaires #2

Roman & Shira

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love surprise pregnancy stories and this one takes the top.  Shira and Roman are complete opposites; he’s abrasive, she’s painfully shy.  He had the wrong impression of her, thought her icy and cold, treated her so badly, she often skittered away when he approached.  Since he purchased the debt of the company she’s directing, they have no choice but to interact, and it’s a toxic environment.  When they learn they had an masked encounter in a sex club with each other, and that it ended in pregnancy, big surprise! Shira gave him the choice to bow out, but Roman refused. And so our story of opposites starts!

I loved how Roman tapered down his intensity to prevent Shira from cowering, loved how Shira flourished under his attention and care and lost most of her shyness, but not her quirks, loved how she opened her heart and her house to his brothers. The sofa incident was cute. Roman’s shenanigans with the Mary the cat and the changing of her liter were an expression of devotion and protectiveness that I loved, loved a lot.

Then I find that one of her besties is Clara Rossi, another friend is Kit, Elliot Levy’s wife, and we’re among our old billionaire friends again.

As always, the romance is on point, both characters evolving, the pace is perfect, I loved Roman’s twin brother Ben, hope to read about him soon, and enjoyed the subtle humorous touches. Another perfect romance from this author!

Book review: HERE AND NOW, by Corinne Michaels

Ember Falls #2

Miles & Penelope

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was cute and sweet all the way through.  Penelope and her son Kai are on the run from a danger in their past, they’ve been in Amber Falls for a few weeks, enough for Miles Anderson to meet Penelope and fall for her like a ton of bricks.  It was cute to see all the shenanigans he invented to meet with her and gain territory in the fight for her heart.  Penelope is wary and defensive, she’s on the run, she doesn’t want to get involved but Miles is so cute (and hot!), such a decent person, he’s hard to resist.

It was cute to see Miles visiting Prose and Perk, where Penelope works as a barista, and order coffee, which he hates, and act like he’s drinking and enjoying (inward shudder!).

He’s cute, he’s persistent, he’s canny and irresistible as he embroils Penelope into “accidental” dates.  Penelope resists but who can withstand being the focus of such a dedicated courting, from such a determined suitor.

There’s a low thrum of suspense because we don’t know when Penelope’s endangered past will come to visit, so we’re on the lookout.  Miles is decided and protective. And we’re spellbound reading.  I had credibility problems on some of the action but enjoyed the suspense.  In the end, a highly entertaining story!

Book review: THE LAST GUY ON EARTH, by Sarina Bowen

Hockey Guys #3

Jethro Hale & Clay Powers

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I feel like this is the best book in this series, I was so invested in Jethro and Clay’s story! Two rookie hockey players, had the best time of their lives, rooming together in a crappy apartment, experimenting their sexuality together. Then a misunderstanding, a separation, and they won’t meet again in fifteen years.

Wowza, what a story! Jethro had family problems, it affected his play and he was traded from Detroit to Colorado, where Clay is the head coach. There’s lots of resentment and unresolved business between these two! It was inevitable that they would eventually start to communicate and explore why they didn’t work out. Mainly, Jett’s family life was crappy and he had no idea how to have a relationship.  This time around, both are mature and invested to make it work.

I loved how their love story progressed, from a forbidden situation, to an irresistible attraction, and to the reawakening of buried feelings.  Meanwhile, we get a lot of action in the hockey rink, I loved seeing the game from the goalie’s perspective, all the tension, frustration, and satisfaction of the game. I also loved seeing the other couples from the series living their happy HEA.

Book review: THE FAULT IN FOREVER, by Claudia Burgoa

I loved this book even though it was very heartbreaking.  It’s full blast angst, all the time, as a ghost from a tragic past comes back to haunt.  So I was in angsty heaven!

Ophelia and Haydn are taking their relationship to a new level, she’s moving in with him, to the house he bought with her in mind.  They have been together five years, and he has fought for their love, helping her get over a past heartbreak that nearly destroyed her.  Now, hopeful for a new happy future, they get a surprise phone call, the man she loved many years ago and believed to be dead, is not only alive, but awake from a five-year coma, and she’s his guardian!

To say that this story is turbulent, full of many tears and guilt and heartbreak is an understatement on the angsty ride it took me on. And I loved every word of it!

All the pain, the survivor’s guilt, the trauma from that loss comes back to the front, and she has more questions than answers.  She didn’t know he was alive, his parents kept her away from him after the accident.  She didn’t know how she came to be his guardian and in charge.  And with all those questions, she and Haydn fly to Keaton’s side to see what had to be done.  This is a crazy love triangle, because one of the three was initially dead, then awoken, and invalid.  Haydn, throughout all this book, was solidly on Ophelia’s side, helping her, watching over her, making sure she rests and eats.  It’s heartbreaking for both of them, more so for Haydn who is now unsure if he will lose the woman who is everything to him.

The author did a great job of releasing snippets of information as the story evolves, so we eventually get a complete picture of all the elements involved in the story.  Just when you think you have it handled, she hands you another whammy, so you start to cry again and wonder what the heck will happen now.

The pace is slow and reflective, we get to know all the characters feelings and thoughts, but thankfully it moves on a steady pace and you know you’re getting somewhere, hoping for an HEA.  I was all the time Team Haydn, because Keane for all his confusion, memory loss, and lack of strength, was still a entitled and selfish.  He didn’t deserve the girl, IMO!

Lovely, sad, romantic, angsty, and super riveting.
