Book review: SMOLDER, by Abbi Glines

Georgia Smoke #6

Sebastian & Royal

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Once again, Abbi Glines brings us another addictive story.  This time, a little different, which I loved.  Sebastian, Thatcher’s younger brother, much saner than him, falls for a hustler, in such a powerful and compulsive way, that even Thatcher recognized himself in his little brother!

Sebastian is given the task of seducing Royal, a young woman whose ex-boyfriend was involved in drug trafficking.  The Southern Mafia wanted this drug ring out of the way, so Sebastian, the nice guy, is sent to get information out of Royal, but ends up being beguiled with this surprising young woman.  She runs different hustles to support her Grams who has dementia, and her father is no help but rather a hindrance, an abusive alcoholic.  All Sebastian sees in her is an enterprising and caring young woman, he admires her and wants to keep her.

The story evolved differently and very complicated with lies and deceits, and I really didn’t know how the author was going to unravel the web of lies, but she did so and brilliantly.  The lies were told, and then the truth came out, but also the strong feelings and the inherent trust that Sebastian evokes in anyone dealing with him.  He was as insanely in love as Thatcher was, but he incites a feeling of trust and safety that Royal couldn’t resist.

I loved seeing Sebastian falling madly in love and getting obsessed, loved seeing Thatcher being the protective big brother, loved Royal. She was super intelligent and used her intelligence to support her Grams. Again, another highly entertaining and addictive story. I can’t wait for more from Abbi Glines!

Book review: ALL TOO WELL, by Corinne Michaels

Ember Falls #1

Lachlan & Ainsley

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ainsley MacKinley is wicked! All the pranks she played on poor Lachlan West had me in stitches reading this book! The best way to describe Lachlan as he reacts to Ainsley is beleaguered, which made this story such a delightful romance.  I loved the banter, all the joking and teasing.  Their second chance is riddled with longing and issues from a problematic childhood as Army brats, the frequent moves and complicated relations with their parents.  In all the turmoil of their childhood, the friendship between Caspian, Lachlan, and Ainsley, was the only constant they had.

Lachlan is Ainsley’s older brother’s best friend. When they were little she was the little pest who followed them everywhere. When she was fourteen, she was the teenager who crushed hard on Lachlan. And when his mother died, she tried to comfort him, kissed him and got rejected so hard that she went back to college and ghosted him. Now, four years later, she’s a reporter and she had to seek him out and try to get an interview with him. Fun times!

Lach walked away from a professional football draft to take care of his baby daughter. He settled in a little town and turned into a firefighter. He’s giving his daughter Rose the childhood he didn’t have. And now Ainsley, a.k.a. Painsley, to interview him. And as the icing on top of a cake, his teammates are also would-be draftees who walked away for heir own personal reasons. And what are they doing to keep in athletic shape? Ultimate Frisbee team!

I loved the romance, loved little Rose and the love that flourished between her and Ainsley, loved the coffee shop with the writer’s nook and her new friend Hazel, loved Ainsley’s cluelessness about sports, her wicked humor, and the three friends. It’s wonderful when you have a book full of friends, fun times, and sweet sexy times and the author offered those in droves.

Lach has issues he hasn’t resolved from his childhood and they are the obstacle to their HEA. I sure enjoyed watching Ainsley give him pain! Throughly entertaining, this has been the funnest book I’ve read by this author!

Book review: UNDENIABLY INFATUATED, by J. Saman

Boston Irresistible Billionaires #3

Stone & Tinsley

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One of the best romances this author has written! It was undeniably delicious and so steamy!  Stone and Tinsley have the best chemistry, the best compatibility.  To think, for years they have been near each other while Tinsley was with Forrest, Stone’s younger brother, but it wasn’t until she stowed away in his sailboat when he escaped to reset his life that they got together and realized they’re soulmates.

It was so angsty to have this huge desire to be with someone, to know they’re the one, and believe it’s forbidden because she was Forrest’s ex-girlfriend.  Then to read all their good times, only to know it will be temporary, then part. It was too sad!

This author kills me with the forbidden trope, I was so frustrated! I wanted Kinsley and Stone to get together, but I also understood that they both love Forester and don’t want to hurt him.  And then on top, we get another stalker, suspense, anxiety, and let’s not talk about the paparazzi!

I loved reading how Tinsley and Stone got to know each other, discover traits they love, and the infinite sadness at their separation. The push and pull was torturous, and I wanted to say: the heck with Forrest, he was being so annoying.

I love the togetherness, the big bunch of friends and family getting together to help, the sexy times, how they brought out the best in each other, how they were vital in helping the other turn their loves around. I loved Grandma Olivia and her huge wisdom and little push at the most convenient time.  It’s a mix of events and feeling that this author developed that made this boom so memorable. Loved it!

Book review: END GAME, by Monica Murphy

Kings of Campus #1

Nico & Ever

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Monica Murphy is definitely the queen of young adult romance!  This book is such a perfect example, young kids about to finish college, with the hopes and ambitions for their future, but also with the insecurities that come from not being all that experienced yet.  Such is the case of Nico and Everleigh.

Nico is a football star in UC Santa Mira, California, adored by many, pursued by the groupies, he sort of lives in an elite group where they don’t mix so much with the regular students.  Everleigh arrived in town for junior year, leaving her crappy home, and looking forward to a better life.  Her first day in town was truly awful, she lost her rental room, her car was broken into and her stuff taken, but she lucked in that she got a room with this group of guys who just had a cancellation on their extra room.  She begged, she won, and now she’s rooming with the Kings of Campus and doesn’t know it!

I loved all the aspects of the book, from the college life as depicted, the hassle of football, studying, working to make rent, the friends, the groupies, the boozy parties, the jealousy and above all, the feeling of wanting someone but feeling it’s forbidden.  All that back and forth was delicious for me, angsty for them, and just plain adorable.  Seeing Nico not as cocky as usual was sweet, and Ever was mature, kind, helpful.  She helped the guys feeding them nutritious meals and gave them yoga lessons to help the loosen up.  I had visuals of big hunky men all twisted on the floor! Yum!

In this first installment, I can already tell I’m going to love all the guys.  Frank the guy who tries too hard, Gav the oblivious one, and Cooper my favorite, a little closed off, always kind, always observant, quiet and a great friend.  I loved the closed proximity together with the slow burn, what some may call reticence but I think was more a tad insecurity.  Anyway, I saw love, I saw interest, and I saw they needed to sort their issues.  And I enjoyed every step of the way!

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey
