Book review: STORM, by Abbi Glines

Georgia Smoke #4

Storm & Briar

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I started this book with a worry and ended with a delight! As a woman who values her independence, I was beginning to be indignant about Storm’s efforts to keep Briar chained and dependent to him. I knew his feelings were genuine, I knew how much he loved her and cared for her, but he was getting a tad toooo much possessive and unhinged. And I understood that Briar loved him but needed her space and independence.

I loved how Storm catered to Briar’s every whim and need. And because Dovie was important to Briar, she was important to Storm too, so she was very well cared for. But he was lying and hurting Briar in the process. I also loved how valiantly Briar tried to keep her independence, while succumbing to her love for Storm.

So I was worried and challenging the author, how she was going to fix this and she was brilliant!  Storm was getting so psycho that I felt Thatcher was sane in comparison!

The story had some irritating parts (Storm’s machinations), funny parts (the Sunday lunch where every male’s crazy was discussed), very steamy parts (numerous). And it was entertaining as heck. In the end, I loved Storm because I now understood: all the Georgia mafia men have some crazy in them!

Book review: CHASING HARLOW, by Jay McLean

Relentless angst in young adults is what I felt as I read this book, and I loved it!  Jace and Harlow come from tragic events, they are broken, but once they find each other, it was as if they came out of the darkness and found the light.

There were parts that made me cry, they were so sad. Other parts were so entertaining, reading about the life on youngsters in a small town where the fun lies in bonfires or pool parties in some classmate. The gossip train of the little town, the cliques in school, the parents who knew your parents and watch out for each other are all present.  Jace was a brilliant baller but distant teammate. Heather was still grieving for her brother, and coming back from some turbulent months. Their friends Sammy, Jeannie, and Jonah are delightful. They all come together slowly into friendship, Jace and Harlow even slower into love.

The author took me through some twists and turns that wrecked my heart and made me cry, but at the end all I can say is, it hurt so good!

Book review: THE FEUD, by Sawyer Bennett

Bluegrass Empires #1: A Blackburn Novel

Ethan & Marcie

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fascinating! I am loving this new series, far apart from hockey, and now into the horse world in Kentucky.  And we get two warring families, the Blackburns and the Mardraggons, an enmity that has lasted for two hundred years, amazing!

The Blackburns have a saddlebred horse breeding farm, the Mardraggons have a bourbon empire.  Through the years, they have been trying to destroy the other’s empire, but with modern police thwarting their efforts, they have resorted to just hating and insulting.

Imagine the surprise for Ethan Blackburn, oldest son, CEO of the empire, the responsible one for carrying on this huge empire, when he’s told he had a nine-year-old daughter.  And a product of a one night drunken encounter with Alaine Mardraggon, no less. Still, he’s a responsible person, so he goes to court, planning to demand a paternity test, when the little girl arrives, his mini-me in girl form.  No more doubts! Now to fight for custody!

This book was so entertaining!  I devoured the pages, in love with this family and little Sylvie.  Ethan has been a confirmed bachelor for many years, but that lasts until he meets the principal of Sylvie’s new school.  The guy fell like a ton of bricks, and Marcie has already been looking at him, from afar, for quite some time.

Lots of great plot lines, all perfectly executed, Ethan’s growing feelings for Marcie, the love and protection that surged upon meeting his little girl, the enmity with Sylvie’s grandparents, fighting for money, it’s all there and all thrilling. And of course, sexy times!

I loved, loved this story and can’t wait for Gabe and Kat!

Book review: THE TROUBLE WITH PLAYERS, by J. Nathan

I hadn’t read this author in some time and had forgotten how great and entertaining her books are!  It was such a treat to read this enemies to lovers story, even more because it involves YA and sports romance.  I loved reading this book!

Peyton is still hurting over her father’s betrayal, so she went backpacking to Europe for the summer before her senior year in Alabama State University. She came back to Cape Cod because she needed the beach, to find that her father is hosting a player in the Cape baseball squad and gave him her room.  Because of her dad’s sins, she hates all baseball players, especially Crew.

She’s so full of hate and snark, and I had a great time reading her and the zingers she sent Crew’s way.  It takes a very self-assured guy to take all her barbs and be amused instead of irritated.  The banter, the snark, the chemistry, all made for such a fun read.  Of course, it all ends with them together! While Peyton is snarky, Crew is cute, sending her his home-run balls with the little leaguers, the balls with messages, getting her to share time with him, getting into her bed just to annoy her.

Now that I re-discovered this author, I’ll be sure to catch all future releases!
