Book review: THE HEAD THAT WEARS THE CROWN, by Mariah Stewart

Delightful and entertaining, a different kind of book from what I usually read, but I savored the change in pace.  A woman from South Philly who had a very stately grandmother finds out that her grandmother was an Grand Duchess from an European country and that she’s inherited the title.  She’s invited to visit the country in hopes she will take over as ruler.  It seems like a fairy tale, and it is a wonderful story!

The pace is slow and perfect, developing the characters and describing the beautiful country of Saint Gilbert.  Annaliese’s ambitious projects fired my imagination, taking on a country that is in shambles but has so much potential.  It was a stressful job and I could feel the desire to help and the stress of wanting to do so much so fast.  I loved all the characters who are presented so perfectly.  Annalise is our heroine, a forty-something divorced woman, owner of a row house in South Philly, mother of two teenagers.  The reaction of Ralphie and Juliette when they learn they are prince and princess is priceless.  The sisters Ceil and Roe, one very supportive, the other a Debbie Downer, but lovable all the same.  And let’s not forget Captain Maximillian Belleme, captain of the castle guard and in charge of Annie’s safety.  He looks like a young George Clooney so say no more!

The story as Annie takes over and the changes brought forth by her ruling, her relation with Max as it develops very slowly and very subtly, the kids evolvement into their positions, the sisters as they take on responsibilities in the country, it’s all very entertaining and actually educational.

Lovely, heartwarming, entertaining, a complete delight as I always expect from this author.

Book review: WRIGHT KIND OF TROUBLE, by K.A. Linde

Wright Vineyard #7

Chase Sinclair & Harley Wright

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In Lubbock, Texas, Chase Sinclair is the enemy by virtue of his last name, all caused by his sister Ashleigh and his father. Both tried to sabotage Wright businesses, so Chase is hated by default. When Jordan and Annie got married, Chase assisted only because Annie guilted him into it.  And once Harley Wright saw him, she was hooked.

I loved this forbidden love story, sorta like Romeo and Juliet, except nobody dies. Once Chase learns that Harley is so much younger, he does the right thing and stops them from getting involved. He feels she needs to enjoy college, party it up with her friends, with no obligations. It’s hard for him, offensive for her, and he sets up a goal: graduation.

I loved as the story develops, loved Harley and Chase. The chemistry is so potent, they can’t resist whenever they chance together. The author did such a great job of giving them sporadical encounters, keeping the flame burning hot, the yearning, the need, Chase’s doubts if they will make it, Harley’s rebellion, and above all, the fears of how the Wrights will react.

I felt for Chase because he was nothing like Ashleigh, who tried to sabotage Julian’s winery more than once, nor his father with his cheating and dubious schemes. He was a decent fellow and his love for Harley was deep and true.  Harley is super intelligent, a spitfire who is incredibly brilliant and knows where she wants to go in life, and one of those goals is being with Chase.

The book ends in a cliffhanger, so now we get to wait for the real fight for their relation. Meanwhile, I will re-read all those yummy steamy scenes, their banter, their serious moments where they shared their souls, the bittersweet yearning for someone you love but need to be apart from, for now. It was very romantic and steamy and delicious!

Book review: THE ARISTOCRAT, by Penelope Ward

This book made my heart hurt so bad! It’s been some time since I read this author and had forgotten how she breaks your heart and puts it together again, after making you hurt and yearn for the characters’ happy ending.

A British aristocrat with many expectations of his title and inheritance, and an American girl, product of the foster system, determined to forge a future in law. It’s like a forbidden love but it was explosive and all-encompassing.  The book starts slowly as necessary so you get involved in these two characters and watch as they get closer and closer.  It starts out as fun and flirty, sweet and sexy, but ends up in lots of heartache before giving us the HEA .

Leo brought his cousin with him on this vacation that is like a sabbatical, and he’s a riot. Sigmund is sarcastic and cutting, but at the same time, funny and kind.  Sig’s playboy stories with the women made me laugh and sometimes I liked him more than Leo because he was so entertaining.

I loved the banter, loved the angst, loved Sig, loved how the happy ending was long and entirely satisfying!

After reading this story that is so romantic and full of passion, I can’t wait to read Sig’s book, The Surrogate!

Book review: TEMPTING PROMISES, by Corinne Michaels

Whitlock Family #3

Rowan & Charlotte

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a fun book!  A couple who hate each other turns from enemies to lovers, not without some squabbles and mischief.  Rowan used to go out with Charlotte’s sister Aurora, but when they broke up, she turned vindictive and vilified him to everyone in town.  She lied saying he cheated on her, turning Charlotte against him too.

Now Rowan and Charlotte are competing for a milk producing contract and as they have frequent contact, she can’t help realizing he’s a decent person, not capable of what her sister accused him of.

I loved the banter and the squabbles, loved the decent and kind person Rowan is.  Initially, I was annoyed at Charlotte, but then she redeemed herself as she starts noting Rowan’s actions when he rescues her several times.  They have such yummy sexy times! I loved the funny nonsense about the hat exchange!

This is a small town romance, which I love, where everyone is in each other’s business.  The Whitlock family is tight and supportive, and I loved Rowan’s niece Olivia.  She’s deaf but that doesn’t stop her from being a strong assertive young girl.

The family dynamics, the rivalry between Charlotte and Rowan, the banter and squabbles, Charlotte’s stubbornness, it all adds for a very entertaining story.  I only wished that Aurora, Charlotte’s sister, got more comeuppance than she got!

Book review: BOMBSHELL, by Abbi Glines

Judgement #1

Micah & Dolly

Just when I think Abbi Glines has done it all, she did it again!  In this story, she united an angel (Dolly) with the devil (playboy biker-dude Micah). Dolly is Micah’s little sister’s best friend, they haven’t seen each other in years.  And now when they meet again, Dolly remembers how much she crushed on him and why it wasn’t a good idea; Micah reacts to the tiny bombshell he finds Dolly is now, nicknames her Tink (as in Tinkerbell) and starts lusting for her real hard.

With the usual MC and Southern Mafia shenanigans, we’re now set on getting to know the Judgement MC club up close, the ladies of the club, and introduced to club politics.  At one moment, Micah mentioned going to church and I was gobsmacked until I realized it’s their meeting room 😂

Dolly has some strong issues going on, she’s strong and dealing but sometimes they knock her down.  Her bestie Pepper is very protective, I enjoyed seeing how Micah loves and respects his little sister, also a little afraid of her.  She seems to be a firecracker!  I loved, loved, seeing Gage Presley, even though he’s used as the grim reaper to instill fear in the MC’s enemies. His smirk and good humor are legendary as well as his psychotic tendencies.  The other guys appear but Gage is my favorite.

The book is super entertaining, with all the MC business, the slight suspense coming from the guy who targeted Dolly to get back at Micah, Dolly’s issues, Micah trying to keep the distance, Pepper’s many threats to her brother, all the bikers who look scary but the ones protecting Dolly are marshmallows.  I loved the interactions, the decent people who appear dangerous initially and are anything but, loved Dolly’s generosity and kindness to everyone in need.  It really is impossible not to love her.  The slow burn as Micah holds strong and then folds is deliciously sweet and sexy.  Dolly is insecure and broke my heart many times, and I was rooting for her because she deserves everything good and kind.  It really was a great read!

My only concern with the book was that several plot lines were not closed up tightly and I hope it’s because they will be addressed in future books. Otherwise, it was another knock out of the park by Abbi Glines!

Book review: KARMA’S KISS, by R.S. Grey

The best part about this book is that it’s a small town romance, and I love this trope.  Everyone knows everyone else’s business, gossip tra...
