This has been the best book I’ve read by this author so far! Great character development, great love story, nicely complicated and steamy, and a great pace as she moved the plot. The author used present time and past time, which was great because it enabled me to understand the characters so much better. And it also has dual POV’s, which I love because we get to learn how the two characters feel. So all in all, this has been an amazing great read.
Callie comes back to her hometown for the funeral of her father. She left seven years ago, and has had no contact with her father nor the boyfriend she left behind. When she encounters Wes, he treats her with such scorn that I hated him. And I also hated to see how weak she felt in his presence. I could understand why she left, she hated the life she had with her father who was President of the motorcycle club, and Wes committed the ultimate betrayal, he joined the club, and is now the new president.
Many feelings and thoughts happen here. Callie realizes she missed this town, it feels like home. She has regrets for not contacting her father and is now beset with grief. And, we hate Wes for being so nasty! There’s something strange in her father’s will, she’s received with open arms in the MC house, but is unable to get lodgings due to the freeze Wes placed around town. They don’t want her there and she’s determined to find out why!
There’s an element of suspense, which made this a page turner, a lot of interactions between the characters, MC politics which are kept secret from her, a somewhat big cast of a characters, yet easy to keep track of. It kept me riveted, anxious to find out what would happen in the end. I felt the author had great control of the story and kept us in a tidy pace as she unveiled the information not too fast, but not too slowly either. I love it when authors give a great balance of suspense and information!
The love story was great and, and pretty soon I realized what a big love Callie and Wes had. Even though initially I hated Wes, as the story evolves, I understood his feelings and why he was mad. This was a great second chance story, first the anger fireworks, then the spicy fireworks, and total disclosure of all truths. Super entertaining, I loved it!
