I have been following Sawyer Bennett’s hockey stories for a long time and they never disappoint. Character development is fantastic and there’s a group of friends and partners that already feel like old friends. Tie that together with sporadic appearances with characters from previous series and it’s a book boyfriend fest.
I knew Drake and Brienne would be a couple since that scene in Auden’s book where Drake comes for an interview and he and Brienne had their meet ugly (as opposed to meet cute!). Brienne asked the wrong question, angered Drake and he gave her and the Titans the finger. But I knew and hoped it wouldn’t stay there and in this book I got my wish!
The chemistry between Brienne and Drake was nuclear hot, and the only thing I wondered was where Brienne would find the time to have a fling, with the hours she worked. But happily, she did find the time and they did connect and the sparks flew, as I suspected they would.
I wondered if their relationship would be uneven, since she’s so powerful but together they were perfect. In the bedroom, he was the powerful one, completely dominating her and giving her the mindless relief and pleasure she needed. Of course, since he comes from such a destructive divorce, there’s some distrust involved, and he’s insanely protective of his sons.
There were issues, and Brienne is not accustomed to dealing with little boys but brilliant woman that she is, she discovered that ice cream is a great negotiating tool.
I loved the story, loved the emotions and their insecurity in being able to fathom being a couple in the public eye. Brienne was seen as an ice queen but she certainly melted for this Thor-looking hockey player. It was entertaining and so yummy!
